Why Web Accessibility is Important

Web accessibility is important because it ensures that websites can be used by people with different abilities, including those with visual, hearing, motor, or cognitive disabilities. Accessible websites use features such as readable text, sufficient color contrast, keyboard navigation, and alternative text for images to make content easier to understand and navigate. By following accessibility best practices, website owners can create a more inclusive experience for all visitors.

For The Desert Dish, accessibility is especially important because I want everyone to be able to explore restaurant reviews, view photos, and find dining recommendations without unnecessary barriers. During this lesson, I installed the UserWay accessibility plugin and explored features such as text resizing, contrast adjustments, and link highlighting. While accessibility widgets can provide helpful tools, they do not replace proper website design and accessibility testing. Moving forward, I plan to prioritize accessible design choices to make The Desert Dish more welcoming and user-friendly.
