For my website, I chose the Astra theme because it is easy to customize and works well for a restaurant review blog. I wanted my website to have a clean layout while incorporating colors and images inspired by the Arizona desert.
WordPress offers several widgets that can make a website more useful and easier to navigate. Five examples include:
- Search: Allows visitors to search for specific posts or topics.
- Categories: Organizes blog posts into different topics so readers can easily find what interests them.
- Latest Posts: Displays recently published articles and encourages visitors to explore more content.
- Archives: Organizes posts by publication date, making older content easier to find.
- Calendar: Displays a monthly calendar that can help visitors navigate posts by date.
For The Desert Dish, I chose Search, Categories, and Latest Posts because they make it easier for readers to discover restaurant reviews.
My Customizations
I made several changes to personalize my Astra theme. I created a navigation menu with links to my Home, Posts, About, and Contact pages. I also added a link to Arizona Restaurant Week.
To match my blog’s Arizona theme, I added a desert landscape background, used a boxed content layout, and customized the website’s colors with terracotta and dark brown. I also created a matching site icon and tested how the website looks on desktop, tablet, and mobile devices.
Benefits of Scheduling Website Design Changes
Scheduling website updates can be helpful for several reasons. First, it allows changes to be planned during times when fewer people are visiting the website, reducing disruptions. Second, it gives website owners time to review and test updates before they go live. Finally, scheduling changes helps maintain a consistent website design and keeps content fresh without having to make every update manually.
