Cloud storage and file-sharing services have become essential tools for managing websites and digital content. Unlike traditional storage, which keeps files on a single computer or device, cloud storage allows users to save and access files through the internet. Services like Dropbox make it easier to organize important documents, share files with others, and access information from multiple devices.
Throughout this lesson, I learned how external storage can also play an important role in website security and maintenance. For The Desert Dish, I connected Dropbox to the UpdraftPlus WordPress plugin to automatically store website backups. I configured weekly backups for my website files and daily backups for my database. This provides an additional layer of protection in case my website experiences technical problems, data loss, or other unexpected issues.
One of the biggest takeaways from this lesson is the importance of keeping backup copies separate from the original website. If something happens to my hosting server, having backups stored externally can make recovering my website easier. I’ve also learned that cloud storage is useful beyond backups because it simplifies collaboration, file sharing, and organization. As I continue developing The Desert Dish, I plan to use these tools to keep my website content organized and protected.
